New 24/7 public defibrillator unveiled at Stockwell Park

09 December 2024

Residents of Stockwell Park now have access to a lifesaving defibrillator installed with the support of SNG, contractor partners, and Stockwell Park Community Trust. The new device is located at the entrance to the community centre at Aytoun Place and was officially unveiled at a small event on Thursday 5 December.

The defibrillator has been kindly donated by our contractor partners Higgins Partnerships, following their remedial fire safety works to seven blocks, and was installed for free by Kingsbury Construction, who are carrying out major environmental improvements to Stockwell Park.

Defibrillators offer a high energy electric shock to help restart the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. Community Centre Staff will take on the essential role of checking the device every week. They will also be alerted to check and reinstate the defibrillator after use, so that it is once again ready for use on the 999-emergency service database.

It’s fantastic that in response to resident requests, we’re able to unveil this new public defibrillator, offering reassurance to the community that it’s available in emergencies. This is also a great example of partnership working delivering for local residents and I’d like to thank Higgins for their donation and Kingsbury for their time and effort.

Peter Park, SNG Building Safety Project Manager, adds: “It has been an absolute pleasure working with our SW9 colleagues the community centre staff, Higgins, Kingsbury and Tim Goodwin to make this possible.”

Since 2007 SNG and predecessor organisations have invested heavily in Stockwell Park by building new homes, refurbishing, and improving existing homes and upgrading community spaces on the estate. A project to transform streets on Stockwell Park into tree lined avenues is well underway with paving work recently completed. When this improvement project is finished, it will see greener spaces for public use, new plants and trees, bin stores tidied away, bike stores, seating areas, a play area and community art in space created by displacing parking into secure refurbished undercroft parking areas.

When the overall regeneration is completed, we will have delivered a total of 1079 new and refurbished homes at Stockwell Park, which will be managed by SNG’s subsidiary SW9 Community Housing.
Jamie Mcvey, Stockwell Park Community Trust, said: “This defibrillator represents a major step forward for the safety and health of our community,” said a spokesperson for Stockwell Park Community Trust. We extend our heartfelt thanks to SNG and Higgins for their support and dedication to making this initiative a reality.”

Lee Bright, Construction Manager at Higgins Partnerships, said: “We at Higgins have a long standing relationship with the SW9 community through our various phases of work over the years on the estate and are pleased that we can continue to support this thriving SW9 community.”

Delroy Rankin, Executive Director for SW9 Community Housing, commented: “SW9 welcomes the support of Higgins and Kingsbury to bring this much-needed facility for our residents.”
