Fun in the sun at the Willow House Summer BBQ
02 October 2024
By Caroline Emerure, Scheme Manager
I manage an older persons scheme called Willow House in Wembley and back in the summer when the sun was still shining, we had a BBQ for residents and their families. It was a great success!
After months of planning, the day finally arrived and it was a lovely hot summer’s day. After welcoming everyone, it was time to get the party started! It was well attended with over 30 people including family and friends. We decorated the lounge, conservatory and the garden with colourful decorations including fans, bunting and balloons.
We dined in the lounge and played classic songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s on full blast. Some residents sat in the garden to enjoy the view while others watched the chef preparing the BBQ chicken, hot dogs and burgers. Some residents got up for a dance, there was plenty to eat and drink and it was a lovely atmosphere.
One resident donated jerk chicken, coleslaw and cucumber side salads which we were very grateful for and colleagues at London Care donated the drinks which was much appreciated! My colleagues Debbie Reynolds and Godfrey Niwagba helped me plan the event and run it on the day and together we made it a very memorable occasion.

We received excellent feedback from the residents and their families, with people complimenting the food, the staff, the community spirit and ambience and the music! You can see photos from the day below.
