Before you apply for a garage please read these frequently asked questions.
Who can apply for a garage?
Anyone can apply for garage whether you are a resident of SNG or not. Priority will be given to those who live in the area where the garage is requested.
How much does it cost to rent a garage?
The cost of a garage rental varies depending on location with average rent of £58 per month (with discounts for residents of SNG). When you sign a garage tenancy, we’ll ask you to pay for the first month’s payment up front and to set up a regular Direct Debit.
Please be aware that rents are increasing by 6.7% in April 2024 in line with the September 2023 CPI inflation figure.
Where are the garages located?
We have many garages across Hertfordshire including:
- Hertford
- Ware
- Stanstead Abbotts
- Local East Herts villages
What can I use the garage for?
Our garages are designed for cars. You can use for storage but please be aware that this is at your own risk and we’re not responsible for any damage to your belongings.
Is there a maximum number of garages I can rent?
The maximum number of garages that you can rent out at any one time is three.
How do I apply?
Complete our online form selecting which garage(s) you would like to rent.
If you’ve been successful, we’ll be in touch with you in seven working days.
To be eligible, you must not have any debts with us.
What repairs will you do and what won’t you do?
Garage tenants
- Lost garage keys and keys snapped in locks
Network Homes
- Garage roof
- Walls
- Guttering
- Doors (including opening mechanism)
- Paint work to door
If your rented garage becomes unusable or insecure as a result of a needed repair, we may be able to offer you an alternative garage to use or offer you a refund for rent charged (We will only offer a refund if we are unable to repair the fault outside of 31 days.)
Do the garages have electricity?
The garages do not have electricity.
Is there a restriction on how long I can have a garage for?
Your garage rental is open ended.
Can I swap garages?
Yes, we can arrange for you to move from one garage to another or swap with another garage rental holder. You will need to sign a new tenancy agreement and set up a new account for your new garage.

How do I give notice to end a garage contract?
To terminate your garage tenancy you must complete the following online form.
You can also download a garage termination form. You can then:
- send it to us by email: HertfordNeighbour.AdminInbox@networkhomes.org.uk
- hand it into our office at 36 Ware Road, Hertford.
Please give at least 14 days notice that you want to end your garage tenancy with your tenancy ending on a Sunday.
You will need to hand the keys to the garage back to us before 12 noon the Monday after the tenancy end date at the following address:

If your keys are late then we will have to charge you £100 as we would be required to change the garage locks.
Please clear the garage of all your belongings and rubbish so that you're not liable for the removal and disposal of items left. We can charge you over £400 if anything is left behind.
